paulhealy's review of Topfield TF5800 PVR

“It is an impressive piece of kit. It has a CAM slot...”

★★★★★

Good Points
Big 160 GB hard drive 88 hours of TV recording
Record 2 channels at the same time whilst watching a third. Plays MP3. USB 2.0 port link.

Bad Points
Cost £295 or more. Can't watch the start of a recording whilst it is still recording it.

General Comments
It is an impressive piece of kit. It has a CAM slot too for a top up TV card (got the CAM but not bothered with TUTV since E4 went freeview). The USB 2 link means you can update the receiver directly with i-topfield web site and strangely enough they do listen and customer service from Topfield is very good. Oh yeah, it's best to have a TV splitter as there are 2 aeriel sockets on the PVR. Not tried transferring recordings to PC DVD drive via USB link yet but will do so with the Liverpool European match to see if it works!

It is possible to watch a recording while it is still being recorded.

<br>Price is now around £250 for the 160Gb version, and £299 for the 250Gb version. Note however that many users report that the 250Gb version is noisy (HDD spin noise).
