General Comments
I bought the Save The Last Dance video last year and have watched it far too many times. Sara (Julia Styles) plays a young girl with a dream to become a first class ballerina but when her mother dies in a sudden car crash she is forced to move and live with her father in the city. The neighbourhood and school have mainly African American people and Sara being white looks and feels out of place. After making friends with a girl in her class a relationship develops with the friend's brother due to their shared interest in dance. Sara's being ballet and Derek's however being hip hop. During the course of the film he teaches her how to dance to hip hop, helps her rediscover her passion for being a ballerina and achieve her dream of auditioning for a place at the best ballet school in the country. However their relationship is only made difficult as family do not approve due to their different racial backgrounds. A great cast giving great performances and a soundtrack that makes you dance in your seat! Like many other teen romantic comedy films it is slightly predictable.
