Dan Wilson's review of Maytag Neptune Washer

“This is clearly a faulty design for a washing machine,...”

Good Points
Looks modern, seemed to function reasonably well when new.

Bad Points
MOLD GROWTH and scum build-up in drum brush, Machine stinks of mold

General Comments
This is clearly a faulty design for a washing machine, the entire gasket around the drum collects moisture and actually promotes mold growth. There is also a brush gasket around the drum that collects scum and is very disgusting and impossible to clean. And it doesn't stop at the drum gasket, the mold smell is also coming from somewhere within the machine. If you lift the lid on top where you pour in detergent, the mold smell is even more powerful. To add insult, if you try and leave the door open to let the machine dry out the panel lights stay on and will eventually burn out.

This machine sucks and any company that would deny the faulty design does not deserve to stay in business as far as I'm concerned. I could accept a problem that has been acknowledged and supported by the engineering of the company, but denial or 'here's a new gasket' is not acceptable.
