Bad Points
Fan is a bit noisey. Takes a bit of time to startup when you turn it on. Instruction manual can be confusing.

General Comments
Having bought the Philips DVDR80 and got a refund because GuidePlus (EPG) wouldn't work, I waited for a recorder that allowed you to record to DVD-R/RW and played MP3 discs. So, I took the plunge for the Toshiba RD-XS32. Well what can I say? I am blown away with how good this recorder is.

MP3 playback: The quality of sound is as good if not better than my Marantz CD Player.

Programme Recording: This can be undertaken in a number of ways; hit the OTR button and recording start immediately using the default picture and sound quality settings. Timer recordings are easy to make with the simple menu system. Sound and picture quality can be changed to your preference. Recording can be made to HDD, DVD-R/VD-RW or DVD-RAM (it will automatically work out the correct picture/sound settings to fit the recording onto DVD-R/RW & DVD-RAM).

DVD Editing: It allows you to divide a recording into chapters either automatically, using one of the 3 presets ie. every 5 mins or manually you choose where the chapter goes. It allows you to delete chapters as well ie. chapter the adverts out of a film for example. You can then record this onto a DVD-R/RW. You can make a playlist - taking chapters from different recordings, splice them together (into a playlist) and then create a new recording from this playlist.

DVD Playback: Picture quality is excellent and the sound is very good.

Menus: Some of the menus can be confusing at first, especially as the instruction manual is not the best in the world. However, there are *EASY* menus that allow you to do the basics ie play a recording.

I got a multiregion version, however, it will play all non-region2 DVD's in NTSC format (does not have an in-built NTSC to PAL converter), so if you get a multi-region version, make sure your TV is NTSC compatible!

I got my record from RGBDirect who delivered the next day and were the best on price.

A brilliant recorder that I thoroughly recommend.
