Phoenix City, Stalybridge

Went to Phoenix City last night . Wasn't impressed it wasn't brilliant the first time we went but its got worse. The service is ok but the staff are miserable as sin. Food was very average, tasted like the beef & chicken was processed and to top it off all the food was served on plastic plates.

Had better Chinese from my local take away wouldn't bother save some money and get a take out from Blue Ginger ..

Myself and my party have travelled extensively around the world, and yet have managed to find the worst restaurant in the world just a 10 minute walk from my house! Once we had taken a seat and chosen our dishes at Phoenix City Chinese restaurant in Stalybridge, our drinks were served; 3 pints of tasteless Eurofizz and a gin and tonic, with flat tonic. Then the joys of the food was served. This was a revelation, as I have never come across food with such a distinct lack of flavour, the only way of knowing what you were eating was by looking at it, which was difficult as everything was grey! Needless to say none of us finished our (rather large) portions. This lead to enquiries from the waiting staff as to whether we had enjoyed our meals. The response being an emphatic no. We were then told that if we had told them as soon as the food arrived then they may have changed them. The staff did not seem to understand our argument that there was no point replacing one plate of hot grey with another. They did however give us a discount. In short expensive food, and the feeling that this Phoenix should have stayed in the ashes - it might have tasted better.

I went here last night after not going for over 12 months as last time I went I was not very impressed.

I still wasn't over impressed, mainly because I wasn't sure at first if I could eat my starter (chicken skewer) because the texture of the chicken was very strange. My husband tried it and said that he thought it was fine and that it had probably been boiled. I tried it after that and it was ok, just very odd?

The main courses were nice, though I have had a better elsewhere.

I probably would go back again, but I cannot see this becoming one of my favorite restaurants as the decor isn't the greatest and one wall in particular does not even look decorated, it is (when you look properly you can tell) but at a glance you would think that it was bare plaster.

Room for improvement, but not terrible.
