Good Points
Good quality picture recording and playback especially when recording from Digital Video
Bad Points
Unreliable and cannot be fixed 15 months from buying it.
General Comments
My Philips DVD R1000 DVD Recorder developed intermittent faults, error messages - lock up - not recognising blank disks, approx 12 months after purchase. Completely failed 2 months latter - would not read any DVD's. Have just been advised by an authorised Phillips repair centre that it is un-repairable (not worth spending the money needed).

The first generation Philips DVD recorders all had problems, especially the DVD1000.
This model was taken off the market & replaced with the DVD1000 mark 2 which I have & is well over a year old & I've had no problems with it.
It's important to know which blank DVDs to use with recorders, the worst by far are the Philips, the best easy being Verbatim.

The bottom line is that I was advised by a Phillips repair agent that it was not repairable, 14 months after purchase. It would not read ANY, including DVD movie disks, at all, let alone record to to a blank disks, and I did try different brands of blank disks. They did not replace the recorder but suggested I purchase another Phillips DVD recorder!
