basskater's review of Metallica, St. Anger

“Metallica have been legends within the heavy metal...”

★☆☆☆☆

Good Points
Although I was extremely disappointed and shocked at this album I would have to give Metallica some credit for having the audacity to change their style completely. There is some points in this album that make the change seem ok.

Bad Points
But to my horror, as I listened to the album, something dawned on me, there was absolutely no solos to be found anywhere, also Metallica had ditched their earlier style in search of a more thrash, almost speed metal type of sound! "A Metallica album with no solos!?" I thought to myself as I forced myself to listen to the rest of this. I just couldn't bring myself round to the idea that Kirk Hammett, the man who had brought us such solo's as the classical solo from 'One' or the musical genius which is 'Fade To Black' has made an album with absolutely no lead solos in it at all!

General Comments
Metallica have been legends within the heavy metal music scene for years and years. The new generation even familiar with their old music. So you can imagine my excitement upon hearing that they were bringing out a new album, St. Anger. So come release day I rushed out eager to buy and hear this latest dose of heavy yet melodic guitar music from the metal gods.
