written by screechypoo on 25/11/2003

Good Points
cheap, good looking at price, fairly flexible.

Bad Points
bad design with spikes. downfiring bass port.

General Comments
as i said these Eltax Monitor III speakers sound very good for the price(£60 from richer) and are actually quite flexible, i had the speakers on stands in my bedroom which is to be fair, quite small, about three meteres by three. in my bedroom the bass is ever present, but never over-powering, in fact if you're into vinyl, these speakers are spot on....however, it's not just small rooms, my brother in law swapped me his Mordaunt Short ms 25i's, which were far too bass heavy for my bedroom(floorstanders) however, my speakers in his living room, which is fairly large...6x4, were still big enough to convincingly fill his room!.

now the bad bits, "THOSE" spikes...good in principle, keeps, the base area far away enough from the bass port to produce decent bass...isolates vibrations etc. etc. but you try and find a pair of speaker stands with a top plate big enough to fit those damn spikes on...you won't. so in that respect, poor design, fair enough they're called standmounters...hows about you make them stand mount-able???

and the down firing bass port, i'm sure that in theory this is a good idea as well, but it means, instead of being able to remove "THOSE" spikes and simply place the speaker directly onto a stand, you can't , cos there's a big port in the way.

anyway....
