“POOR FITTERS”

We live an a small cottage and wanted all upstairs carpeted. When carpet right came to measure we specifically asked about the small space and how it would work. We were told that it was no problem, leave everything in place and the fitter will work around it. Wrong! He told us that the rooms should have been completely empty and when we explained what we had been told he virtually called us a liar. Later, on speaking to staff at Kendal carpet right (one of several calls that day) he again told us that we did not need to empty the rooms but would not speak to the fitter for us. The fitter was very hostile and did a dreadful job of the fitting and has knocked off paint everywhere, particularly annoying as we had told him it was all newly painted. I have never been spoken to like that by anyone ever. The leaflet that we were given stated that the fitters would clean up and hoover. This was not done and it was only after I had that I realised that the job was even worse than I thought. When the fitter phoned the next day wanting to know where his money was I told him that I was not prepared to pay him until a satisfactory job had been done. He then became very abusive, threatened to come to our home and rip up all the carpets. He was so hostile and threatening that I seriously considered calling the police. Eventually the Manager of the Kendal store came out and confirmed that a poor job had been done and he took photos of all the damage. He stated that he would get a new fitter to come and fix the bedroom carpet and to fit the stair and landing carpet and give us £100 to 'have a nice meal out'. Stupid us, we fell for that, it was only a ploy until he had received full payment for the carpet. The second fitter did come out and to be fair improved the bedroom carpets a little, but they could still be better, but the landing and stair carpet is appalling. There are huge gaps everywhere, lumps, carpet is already coming away from one threshold and another one has come away from floor. Not one of our calls has been returned. We have had to visit the store twice to get a response and a date for the fitter to come out . Twice we have been given a day and twice there has been nothing. They have had our money and clearly that is all they are interested in. We are getting nowhere with them and now plan to take it up with Head Office. THEY DO NOT DESERVE ONE STAR, PLEASE AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE AND DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY A FRIENDLY MANNER, THIS SOON CHANGES WHEN THEY HAVE THE MONEY AND THINGS GO WRONG.
