“Never again!”

We hired a motor home in June for use for 7 days in august. Without prior advice, they took double the security deposit (as well as the hire fee) from our Visa card, a total amount of over £3500. Repeated requests for the double amount to be refunded were not successful even though they promised to refund........but when? Before collection of motor home, we sighted and signed a Pre hire condition report showing many scratches, internal damage and other issues with the vehicle, this report had been pre competed and we were not given a copy of this. In hindsight, we should have completed the report ourselves and become fully aware of the damages they were noting and those they were not noting! It didn't seem like a big deal. HOWEVER, when we returned the vehicle and advised the person I dealt with (Manchester depot) of the problems we found, he noted them and asked us to sign his report assuring us this was not admittance of liability but only acknowledgement that the damages were there. Nearly 4 weeks later we receive costings for multiple exterior and interior damages we are being held responsible for, some of these are even noted clearly in the pre-hire report! Emails to discuss this have been completely unsatisfactorily resolved and as the company had already taken 2 x security deposit we had no way of disputing this.
They have retained over £1000 for damage we did not do and they don't fix.
