“I purchased one of these as a new item. The first...”

written by Cazfer on 01/10/2008

I purchased one of these as a new item. The first thing I noticed was the maps were at least two years out of date. The A421 Great Barford Bypass opened in August 2006 and is not on the system. There is no way of updating the maps except by purchasing new ones from Sony another £59 plus P&P. The icons on the nice large screen are small and difficult to distinguish especially when driving. There is a very annoying beep which sounds every time you press one of the `keys' which you can not turn off. To navigate using a post code is very difficult, a) you can not enter a street number and b) you have to flick between a letter keyboard (laid out in ABC.. fashion and a number screen to enter the post code itself very time consuming. The large screen looks nice. If you want to use TMC you have to buy a very difficult to get hold of docking station for £59 plus subscription to TMC. Speed camera warnings are available to download, but I could not get mine to issue the desired alert when approaching the camera sites. All in all from a renowned electrical manufacturer this is a very disappointing Sat Nav. I sent it back after just three days.
