“Same as usual!”

written by McKenna1971 on 13/07/2017

Firstly, the car was three or four levels from the bottom due to the secluded villas and high mountains where we always holiday. The vehicle could not climb in second gear and the smell of a burning clutch in first is not good!
Second, I didn't like how the petrol needle stopped moving just below the halfway mark, it left me with the mental problem of, is there enough petrol to get me here or there!
Thirdly, on our last day we decided to go shopping on the way to the airport and with only an hour to get to the airport we decided to head for the car, we sat and turned the key and nothing happened!! Nightmare! we was stuck in a carpark and only about six feet in front of us before the next car, after checking under the hood we rocked the car and preyed! We turned the key and hey presto it worked! Phew!
One of the main things was that I spoke, by phone, to people all over Europe including our Spanish House Manager to the villa, trying to contact Goldcar was impossible which worried us from the start especially when we couldn't get started on the last day. Our house manager tried ringing Goldcar when we first arrived because I wanted to change the vehicle... No chance!
One good thing about Goldcar and that was because of the nightmare petrol needle not moving just under the halfway mark, I always kept the car topped up. I received an email from them on my return to the UK reimbursing me 15 euros! So all the above for approximately 450 Euros for two weeks, that's the equivalent of 5 times more expensive than a car hire in the UK, although I did have the full insurance cover with no waiver!
Things are likely to change along the Brexit path and we're going to have to be careful who we choose for our car hire abroad. We want the best for our cash!! Because things will get very expensive for us! Perhaps touring my own country is over due!
