Tesco 'British' Beef Steaks predominantly display the flag of the United Kingdom above the British Assured Food Standard tractor logo. However, it was only after I had made the purchase that I read the following -
Slaughtered in the UK, Cut in the UK.
There is no mention of the beef having been born or reared in the UK: either of those make it British in my dictionary. The slaughter and cutting of the meat is secondary to me, the rearing and treatment of the animal being my number one concern.
I do not want to subject my family to American meat products contaminated with potentially cancer inducing steroids and pesticides banned in Europe. Nor do I want to eat intensely indoor farmed, poorly treated Eastern European meat.
Once again supermarket labelling has been designed to mislead and deceive the buying customers.
I will not buy any more beef from Tesco,
