“Projects Abroad set me on my path to the future”

I don't have a single negative thing to say about my time with Projects Abroad. I did the journalism placement in Shanghai, China. Before I went to China, I found myself in a rut not sure what I wanted to do. On a whim I decided to make the trip to China with PA to try the journalism placement. I had always been interested in journalism but never had then confidence to try to step up to that career, to me PA seemed like the least threatening and most accessible way to try a profession without fully committing myself to it.

I love my time at That's Shanghai, I was given responsibility and freedom in the job. It really fuelled my ambition and at the end of it That's Shanghai offered me an editors job at their Guangzhou magazine. Now as I write this, I'm living and working in Beijing. I'm currently a news editor at CCTV (China's BBC), and none of this would've been possible without PA.

While I can't speak for other locations, Shanghai is one of the best cities in the world. You will meet loads of new people - whether at PA or out and about - and you'll have a great time.
