“The BBC iPlayer has been long awaited for those of us...”

written by Clair on 20/02/2008

Good Points
TV when you want

Bad Points
A few teething problems and not all programmes stored.

General Comments
The BBC iPlayer has been long awaited for those of us who lead busy lives. It allows you to watch programmes for a week after they have been broadcast on the BBC. So that means there is no more missed episodes of your favourite BBC programmes. This is one thing I found useful today when I realised that Hotel Babylon started again last night, as I was able to log into my computer at lunch time and watch the whole episode on my PC.

It's not all plain sailing at the moment though, call it teething problems or that they are just finding their feet but a few programmes I have tried, an error message has come up stating that iPlayer is currently not available. Another problem is that not all programmes are stored in the iPlayer and I don't think this was made clear in the early advertising campaign which went with the launch. I have also noticed that some programmes are pay per view, however I think these are older programmes which are out of the 7 day playback time.

Overall I like the iPlayer and along with other features that are now available to the TV viewer such as pause, and rewind live TV and bonus features on Virgin and Sky + I really think this the future of the good old fashion telly.
