“Going downhill - Aylesbury ”

written by Vaughnsw372 on 17/05/2017

Dear All,

I would not recommend this gym for the following reasons:

1. Price - this is the most expensive gym in Aylesbury at £55 per month. There are several cheaper and better gyms in Aylesbury now. I will not be renewing my membership in November. I will be going to Pegasus gym instead. You do not get what you pay for. The gym is not exclusive or high class, it is just expensive.

2. Availability - the biggest problem with this gym is that it is hell bent on recruiting new members whether or not there is space or the facilities for them. The gym floor is crowded and getting a space in a class is extremely difficult. In addition to the surge in new members this gym offers free passes with no limit. This means actual paying members are constantly subsidising non paying people to use the facilities. There is a very simple solution to this problem but the management do not seem interested with the actual long standing members concerns and frustrations.

3. The pool- the pool is 3 lanes and 9 times out of 10 there will be 4 plus adults squashed into one lane. This is because the pool has too many private swimming lessons, mum and baby groups, swim fit challenges and each adult is allowed to bring 2 children each for free! All of those activities mean lanes are closed off. Add the scheduled aqua classes which require 2 lanes and it is not exactly a relaxing experience using the pool. Surely this is going against health and safety.

4. Staff- this is strange subject because one or two of the staff are lovely and the rest are just not. They make it very clear that they would rather be some where else doing anything else. They come in to hang out and ignore members. The whole of the management are not interested in what the members have to say and if you get any response to a complaint or even an enquiry it will be evasive, vague and like they are deliberately avoiding addressing what you have said. The cleaners are forever rushing members that's if they are not on their phones ignoring the fact they are actually at work.

5. The canteen- this facility seems to be where all the membership money goes. The gym have a 'chef' 'preparing' baguettes and wraps that are frankly too expensive, not that nice and not to mention they are very basic recipes that don't require a 'chef' to 'prepare' them. Previously a member of the reception team would make you a coffee or get you a protein bar if you asked (there was never that much demand for food and drink) but now Nuffield Aylesbury are determined to force this cafe/ bar on to everyone whether they like it or not. It is a waste of membership fees and should go back to how it was.

5. Lack of doors on the men's showers - this is something an earlier review picked up on. Yes it is true that there are no doors on the men's showers. You will be showering in front of coalleagues, old school friends and sometimes the Vicar because all the men are forced to shower in full view of each other. No privacy or dignity for your £55 a month. It is a horribly degrading experience. I have burn scars on my arms and chest and it is hard enough for me I can't imagine what it is like for any man who is even more self conscious or sensitive. I have mentioned to the management that it a form of discrimination providing doors on the ladies showers and the disabled showers but not the men's showers. I was as told by the manager that she can't comment because she is a female!! I noted the response from the person I dealt with at Nuffield head office to the earlier review and I too have the same question as the previous reviewer. What factilities are Nuffield making space for by not putting doors up on the men's showers? I agree with the previous reviewer that only a door is required in that space.

As mentioned above I will not be renewing my membership and neither will my wife and another couple we know as we will be going to Pegasus gym in November. I think Nuffield Aylesbury will start to see it's members go elsewhere because it really doesn't care about addressing its members concerns as it simply cares about meeting it's monetary targets.

Thank you.
