“I have had my Skoda Octavia 1.6 Estate Car since...”

Written on: 02/01/2005 by centralfm (2 reviews written)

Good Points
A very comfortable ride.
Feels like quite a solid car when driving.
Very quiet engine (sometimes you can forget that the car's turned on).
Quite fun to drive, especially on motorway journeys.

Bad Points
Very low at the front of the car, so the engine cover and trim often make contact with the road (speed humps are not your friend).
Some bad connections with the dashboard lights.
Some bad connections with the number plate lights.
1.6 engine doesn't seem powerful enough for the size of the car.
When using the keys, the door locks can feel quite stiff at times when locking the car.

General Comments
I have had my Skoda Octavia 1.6 Estate Car since august 04, and I can say that on the whole I'm quite happy with it.

The good reputation that the Octavia has compelled me to buy one. The car feels fun to drive most of the time, and you feel quite safe in the cabin as the structure seems solid.

The ride feels good too, but you do get some quite loud road noise at times, which is a shame as the engine is very quiet when stationary.

The car takes turns well, as you feel like it hugs the road, and the ABS brakes work well.

Sadly the suspension at the front is a litte too soft, and because the Octavia is so low at the front, it is sometimes impossible not to make contact with the road (causing slight damage at times).

I have been told that all Octavia's suffer with this problem (so speed humps and pot holes are not your friends).

I've had some problems with poor connections from the dashboard and the number plate lights, but this is no more of a problem than with any other car I've driven.

The 1.6 engine is a little lacking in power for the size of the car, but most of the time the ride is ok, if you remember to change down a gear when you come to go up hill.

You do feel like you will get where you're going safely though, which for me is the main reason I've kept the car and not changed it for something more powerful.

The boot space is good, and is just what you'd expect from an estate car.

On the whole I'd recommend the Octavia as it is very good value for money and for what you get, you'd pay a lot more if you wanted the same specification from another make.
