General Comments
I think the Samsung YP-U3 1 GB is a slim mp3 player, with a cool looking display, thats blue on black.
it can pump out tunes very well, and is quite loud.

Feature wise it can play DRM files, and most of the main formats that are AAC, MP3, OGG, and WMA. and all tagging information is supported there as well.

The player comes with its own music manager and store called emodio (it was originally called samsung media studio). it's easy to use and does allow you to purchase tracks, and music from it; as well as the ability to rip cd's and upgrade/repair the firmware (sometimes these devices loose the firmware and as such stop working, creative players need to be sent back to be repaired however samsung emodio can do the software re-install itself.)

As for installation, it is straight forward, you must have Windows media player 10 or 11 in and windows fully up-to date for it to see the device. Failing that installing emodio also sets up the MTP system for the player.

linux anyone? yes please! its fully supported under linux.

if you have ubuntu 8, then gnome does see it in the computer area and you can browse it. anything below however can see it but via 3rd party programs, these are:

gnomad and Amarok

in debian type at a terminal apt-get install gnomad
in ubuntu type sudo apt-get install gnomad
in suse/fedora type yum gnomad
in gentoo type emerge gnomad

the same above also works for amarok replacing gnomad for amarok.

gnomad is just a file browser / diag info for the device, amarok is like itunes and has its own unique magnatune store.

in amarok under devices you simply add it as an mtp device, then in the main window plug in the yp-u3 hit devices then click connect. and up it goes.

value for money? i think so. remember this is a samsung and it yeilds high quality. performance is excellent, and the package is very good (player, earphones, earphone cushions, and a tidy reel)

I have the 2GB model and it performs very well.

there is also two bundled demo tracks on the player as well.

hope this helps people.
