Howard Johnson Plaza, Convention Centre

We stayed at Howard Johnson Plaza in Nov 04 and because of the time of year, it was very quiet; there was always room around the pool (which by the way was heated and lovely to use on a hot day).

We went for two weeks and were looking for a budget hotel, with the intention of saving the money we spent on accommodation on shopping/attractions.

The hotel is tidy and clean, equipped with 2 swimming pools, laundry facilities, a small gift shop, bar and restaurant.

The hotel is situated in an ideal location, with restaurants and the I Ride trolley all in walking distance. The discount Mall is located a short walk away, and hotel is not far from Universal Studios and Waterworld. Taxi's are always available outside the hotel if you dont want to use the trolley.

The staff are mostly friendly although our room was located right next to the laundry room, and we were woken up every morning at about 7am by VERY noisy staff screaming and shouting. We did complain to reception but found it didnt really make a difference. Beware of the ticket desk at reception selling attraction tickets- they are quite expensive.

Our room was cleaned daily and we had clean towels every day. We had a big room with a double bed, patio doors, air conditioning (free), hairdryer, ironing board, coffee maker etc. Bathroom had a bath and shower.

We didnt actually eat in the hotel restaurant although we did have a look at the buffet and there didnt seem to be much choice. The hotel bar/shop are very expensive- its much better to shop at the petrol station next door to the hotel.

Overall, we had a great time at this hotel and we would definately go back. I would class the hotel as 2/3 star, but dont expect anything too classy as this is a typical budget hotel; ideal for people who are always out and about and just want a bed for the night!
