“This is quite simply one of the worst amps I've ever...”

Written on: 17/08/2010

This is quite simply one of the worst amps I've ever used. I was looking for a decent, fairly loud, but compact bass amp for going on the road to play in mid-range and small venues. The RB-7 has some volume, but that's about it. The lows are incredibly muddy and the highs are barely distinguishable, especially at louder levels. I was amazed how little the various nobs for the lows, mids, and highs did, it seemed like almost no change was happening and the small little horn above and between the 2 10" speakers sounded like white noise. In terms of sound, this could possibly be useful for someone looking for a little practice amp. Otherwise, forget it. At high levels this thing can simply not deliver at all, I couldn't believe how terrible it sounded. Unfortunately, if you want a practice amp, you're better off just going with something used or low quality, the generally high price tag on the RB-7 is another turn off, it usually retails for around $550 at least, a hefty tag price for something that can't deliver. On the plus side, though it doesn't really matter, this thing is nice and compact. It has excellent handles on either side for easy carrying and it can easily fit in a car if you're taking it on the road, though I obviously don't recommend it. I like the look of it, the black, metal grate is cool and the thick, velvety exeterior gives it a nice look. It also kicks back. Still, aside from these minor things, the RB-7 doesn't deliver where it counts, and that's the sound. Sure, it can get pretty loud for its size, but its sound quality is laughable. A total waste of money, thankfully I was able to return mine and did the day after I tried it.
