I requested an upgrade and the system did ask for my existing mobile number and I also got an email asking me to confirm my existing number so I had no reason to believe that I wasn't getting an upgrade. In reality I have been given a new contract so have had all the hassle of changing my telephone number and had to give EE a month's notice to end my existing contract so I have had a double bill this month. EE advised me a lot of customers are getting caught out with this practice so my advice is to be aware of this.
