General Comments
The Olympus C50 was a BIG disappointment after my C40.
The camera is well made, a great size and shape, and has a decent zoom lens. The wireless remote is a nice touch too.
However, in comparison to my C40, the lack of the top LCD panel means the color screen has to come on every time you want to check the resolution, number of remaining shots, flash status etc.
The C40 has a mic and speaker for the quicktime movies. OK, so the quality of the movies is pretty poor, but it's just a nice touch that the C50 lacks.
The autofocus on my C50 is DREADFUL! It fails totally to focus lock indoors day or night under artificial light. I took it into the office to check and even under the blaze of fluorescent lights it couldn't achieve a focus lock. Maybe mine is faulty.
The C50 lacks the noise reduction function of the C40 for night shots.
Finally the controls seem stiff and the rechargeable battery - although a good idea, means that you're stuffed if it runs out and you don't have a spare.
I won't use the C50 again, the C40 remains the camera I will use until something better appears.
