“Peugeot are renowed for being unreliable and the 207...”

written by mjbicester on 25/05/2010

Peugeot are renowed for being unreliable and the 207 is nothing new.

Despite being a completely redesigned car, they are still using the same engines which means they are dog slow. The 1.4 90bhp 16v is smooth but very sluggish and almost a struggle pulling away from junctions even on a slight incline.

My experience was short. Having bought the car, thinking "well, it's slow but I'll get used to that" other things starting happening to it that really put me off. The car had a serious idiling issue. Every time I stopped, even when warm, I would put my foot on the accelerator and not your usual smooth acceleration would then occur... but more that of someone who had just learned to drive or who had filled up with "kangaroo juice." The car constantly lurched from stop, almost to a stall.

On top of that a list of electrical problems/computer problems, break judder that was unexplained. It went back to the garage three times - got a really nice reception from the folkes at Bristol Street Motors in Banbury (I'm being sarcastic, they were very unsympathetic and rude - well, until I wrote to the head office) and to cap it all I find out the head gasket failed on it at 28,000 miles and they had sold it to me without even informing me of it's failure!

I returned the car for a refund, and I've bought a different 207 now which is much better, responsive and works properly.

My advice would be to buy a diesel. Peugeot petrol engines improved after 09 when they started using BMW engines - but the old PSU units are rubbish, slow and unreliable. AVOID!

Oh, and if you happen to be in Banbury, Oxfordshire - avoid Bristol Street Motors like the plague.
