“My first Cannon cooker lasted 30 years with one new...”

written by Dorothy M on 16/01/2010

My first Cannon cooker lasted 30 years with one new thermostat, the second gave up after ten years. This Chesterfield, bought in a hurry because I needed a new cooker for Christmas, is not too good. I should have been warned by the stupidity of the hob position indicators being painted below the knobs so they cannot be seen when standing in front of the cooker.

I chose it mainly because I wanted 4 separate pan supports so they fit in my washing up bowl, but they are so rough the washcloth keeps getting snagged on them. The hob control knobs turn half-way before any diminution of flames, and the lowest position is too hot to simmer. One of the burners is already showing distorted flames as though it's worn out. The top oven takes longer to cook than it should (10 minute pizza took 25 minutes); there is loose movement of all the knobs so it's difficult to decide what number the oven is actually set on.

Another reviewer mentioned lack of insulation: if this is true why are the side walls so thick? I thought with a wider cooker than my last one I could get two roasting tins on the same shelf, as I used to with my first cooker, but it's still only 17.5 inches inside.

I'm disappointed: I won't be buying Cannon again unless they go back to good quality instead of cost-cutting.
