“This is a very busy site centering around a forum...”

written by on 15/06/2009

Good Points
Some good advice is given in general terms and particularly to people who are already in an IVA and are having problems (plenty of those). There is (or used to be) some interesting debt-industry discussion topics. There is a blog section, but it is now mostly restricted to the 'I've-got-an-IVA-and-I-love-it by Fluffy1' variety.

Bad Points
If you post a debt problem you are very likely to be pounced on immediately by an IP if you look like a sniff of an IVA prospect with the suggestion that you 'Contact a Licensed Insolvency Pratitioner', ie themselves. Most debt experts and money advisers who are not involved in IVA sales don't think they are that great.

General Comments
This is a very busy site centering around a forum which claims to give advice to members of the public who post their debt problems, which are then answered by the 'experts', most of whom are Insolvency Practitioners, who totally dominate the site along with their various acolytes. The quality of the debt advice is actually pretty poor as it is very biased towards IVA's (which is pretty much the only debt solution IP's offer, at least for 'free'). Anyone challenging the 'experts' or posting anything to the effect that IVA's are less than absolutely wonderful or pointing out some of the serious flaws with them are likely to be swiftly attacked by some very aggressive moderators and may have their posts removed and their accounts blocked. However the fact that some of the IP's seem to spend their entire life on the site suggests they are picking up bucketloads of IVA business so it is definitely working for somebody. If you want proper, unbiased debt advice call the National Debtline or visit Citizens Advice, not websites which promote IVA sales.
