“So, after a 40 mile drive, was The Hardwick worth it?...”

written by on 01/05/2009

Good Points
Triple-cooked chips were a delight and the roasted cod was fine. Madam's loin of pork was Ok but haricot beans, the major accompaniment thereto, don't have a lot of taste and were a bit underpowering. Sticky toffee pud not bad at all, on a par with best supermarkets' efforts. Ambience and service were both very acceptable if a bit 'pubby'.

Bad Points
I resent paying £1.90 for unexceptional bread - at the prices charged for a la carte dishes one might reasonably? expect it to be included.

General Comments

So, after a 40 mile drive, was The Hardwick worth it? On balance, just about, though it wasn't the gastronomic delight that reviews and publicity might lead one to believe.
