“Honda launched this to celebrate their 50th birthday...”

written by rubblegum on 19/01/2007

Good Points
Grown up MX5, bigger all round and with more power. 230Hp with a top end of 155Mph.
Build quality.
Out and out drivers car. Enough toys: Leather seats, aircon, CD etc but not overloaded with pointless gadgets.
Goes like a missile...like driving a 4 wheel motorbike. Engine revs to 9000rpm and it wants to go and go.
Meets all current emission standards
Class 1 factory fitted alarm / Immobiliser.

Bad Points
Not very practical. You wouldn't want to commute into Slough on a wet January morning in it.
Limited space... 2 up with just enough space for weekend bags for 2.
Can't raise/lower the roof on the move.
Windscreen wash zaps you in the eyes if used with roof down and car stopped...!
High theft /jealousy index... expect idiots to key the panels.
Old fashioned 'rear wheel drive breakaway' Needs modern traction / stability control. The backend likes to breakaway when pushed. This could have an inexperienced driver in the hedge / ditch, particularly in wet weather.
Licence loser. The engine note is addictive... a toned down F1 racing snarl.
Insurance stratospheric cost.
Low to the ground so stone chip problems. Not cheap and not economic to run - 25-30Mpg at best and low 20's if pushed

General Comments
Honda launched this to celebrate their 50th birthday in 2000 and its been subtly tweaked every year since..

Whoooo Ha!

Grown up 2 seat sports car...

Who cares if you're called a hairdresser in a car like this?...especially if its a comment from a sick as a parrot 'hot hatch' driver.

This is a real performance car from a maker of F1 winners. Not some half baked Korean tinplate pose wagon.
