“We went to the Square and Compass restaurant in North...”

written by Cheryl07 on 01/06/2007

Good Points
Unfortunately, I do not have any good comments to make about the meal I had at this restaurant.

General Comments
We went to the Square and Compass restaurant in North Rigton for Sunday lunch, and found it to be not only completely overpriced, but also seemingly half defrosted, so not freshly prepared. Our waitress was polite and helpful, and seemed genuinely apologetic about the standard of the food and the 45 minute wait we had to endure for our starters. It appeared that there were only certain staff manning the bar, which meant that others were simply milling around instead, with nothing to do while we waited for our drinks. This was clearly frustrating when we waited nearly 20 minutes for two soft drinks.

The bread we were offered was of astonishingly poor quality, with it being cold, dry and hard, as if not thoroughly defrosted. The main meals did not arrive all at remotely the same time, which is not really acceptable when paying the kind of prices on their menu, when several of the plates were cold due to the wait.

We complained to the woman in charge (I'm not sure if she was the manager or the owner) who seemed put out that we'd dared to criticise the standard of service and food, with a very unhelpful and rude response.

All this in a practically empty pub. It would be interesting to see how much worse it is when there's more than 3 tables dining.

My basic advice would be, don't waste your money (or your weekend afternoon)!
