Good Points
Sleek, black case.
Goodly priced.
Blue LED lights tell you everything you would need to know.
It has NAS - networking is easy, just hook it up and add directories by going to storage on a computer on the same network.
USB AND RJ45/Ethernet.
I put a 500Gb drive in, which is the maximum, and it worked great!
Fan is super quiet. The heatsink on the bottom was built in, so no installation/mounting required.
Free extra screw!
Bad Points
It uses a snap-on top. Why not screws? Not to be used as a case for constantly changing out drives, as you have to pry it open.
The bottom is screw-in, but the screws sometimes go in awkwardly.
For networking, it requires the 500Gb drive to be FAT32. Most NAS's are like this, so it's not a big deal. Just don't transfer files more than 4Gb on it, as you'll get errors.
Not Gigabit Ethernet.
General Comments
The Vantec NexStar LX is a great device overall! Even a 500Gb drive runs cool in it. I have the fan set to MANUAL-HIGH, and the fan is still super-quiet and effective, even with it's unusual mounting position. The heatsink does it's job, and dissipates heat. The cables fit in there snugly; almost a bit too snugly though. Great price for a great device. Go for it if you need it, otherwise go with a regular IDE to USB and get a more spacious, sometimes sleeker alternative.
