“Dormidame (sleepovermyplace) is definitely one of the...”

Dormidame (sleepovermyplace) is definitely one of the best typical Neapolitan answers to the British B&B invention. In Italy, in Napoli, there are no row "cottages". Towns and cities are built on 5 - 10 story buildings, so a B&B can only be found in a flat in one of such buildings. We spent an August 3 day weekend renting both of the 2 rooms of the flat in Vomero, my husband and I, our 3 boys and the little princess. We were impressed with the cleanliness, decency and quietness of the entire building. My husband, with Neapolitan origins, says that the Vomero area where Dormidame is located is the 'snob' part of town on top of the hill. The metro station is on the same block, basically 2 minutes from the door, making the downtown accessible within 3 train stops. We were in town, but outside of the humid, decadent, decrepitated, unrestored 30 feet tall room buildings downtown. If you've ever been to Napoli, you know what I'm talking about. On the same street there is a wonderful fruit and vegetable market in the morning, and a very famous, well furnished local grocery store (Flordocaf ), which is even open on Sundays.

Napoli is not a quiet town, even if you sleep in a snob area, on the 5th of floor and with closed windows. But then again, if you're looking for quietness, Napoli won't be in your plans.

The rooms have pretty colors, a wooden floor, a clean bathroom, and the apartment is soberly adorned with a love for Naples, evidenced in small details like the Pulcinella mask on the wall and the empty Marinella Tie boxes under the table. If you need anything, the building custodian is very kind and helpful; the total opposite of the Italian stereotype.

Breakfast is not bacon, eggs and toast, but espresso, commercially sold croissants, cookies and jelly. If you care for more, the grocery store up the street has got it all.

Yes, there is point deduction, otherwise, one might think I got paid to sponsor the owners. You have to get used to washing the cappuccino cups and spoons in the bathroom sink, as the kitchen area has no sink and it is not set up for major cooking, as there is only a 2-plate electric stove (hotplate). However, if you're planning to cook instead of eating out while in Naples, it's your own fault!
