“I was very excited about getting a Tom Tom Go 910, but...”

written by daibat on 20/10/2007

Good Points
TomTom's familiarity I find just so reassuring as I've had a few others and they just seam complicated by comparison. I like the screen and find it easy to use.

Bad Points
Everything else. Cost too much for what is in effect a cheap tomtom without the SD support but with a hard drive instead which means that you'll loose everything when it fails and it will fail!

General Comments
I was very excited about getting a Tom Tom Go 910, but now I have, I prefer my tomtom on my ipaq. Really is a poor quality, unreliable and badly designed load of rubbish. Certainly my last from this range.

I can't imagine for the life of me what the point is in a navigator that has picture viewer, mp3 player or whatever. Bluetooth I used. Only when I was on holiday in my hire car but it worked well. None of the remotes I've had (3 so far) have come out of the boxes because I can't think my life is complicated enough without trying to use a remote control to operate such a device.

This is my third. The first died on day one and was replaced with a reconditioned model which I told them nicely to put it somewhere dark. Number three I've had for a few months and it works fine but if you run the battery out, you have to reset it to work again (Always carry a paper clip in your wallet if you want to carry it).

Who ever would have imagined we'd want a navigator so big you can't put it in your pocket? It is stupidly big and heavy too.

No stylus means that my fingers which are not fat are too big to type an address without really concentrating hard. This topped with the fact that when typing it takes far too long to register each typed character, makes it a clumsy system when need to change routes on the move.

The screen mount lasted almost a month. What a load of rubbish! The device is so heavy too that even before it fell to the floor leaving the insert on the screen it would only face the floor with the device attached during a long journey unless you did what I did and put it right to the bottom of the screen sitting on the dash making it more difficult to attach and remove the device. A replacement mount costs about £50. That is unforgivable for what it is because in truth I wouldn't put the entire units worth as being much more.

The mount is just too short! Why oh why do they think we all have 5 foot arms? If you can reach the device when it's attached to the holder anywhere in your car you either have a very small car or like apes you walk on your knuckles.

Cost is too much and for those of you who may read this in advance of buying one, buy one only if you have a medical condition, which prevents reason or you are not of this planet in which case "Zoggy chooga" to you.
