My 94 year old father had his insurance with Halifax and after he'd been in hospital for 4 weeks I rang to tell them and ask them what I needed to do to ensure the house remained covered. They refused to speak to me (or even advise in general terms) as I didn't have his written approval to speak to them. I sent this off but it was 'never received'. Next time round I took it into a branch of Halifax and they sent it over, but once again it was 'never received'. At this point my father came out of hospital and was home for a few weeks before going into a care home. In the meantime I'd obtained Power of Attorney and registered it on Dad's Halifax bank accounts. While I was in the branch I asked them if they could speak to Halifax Insurance and let them know, but when they rang they were told that my Dad didn't have his insurance with them. I then rang Halifax Insurance with the policy number to advise them that I would be emptying the house and renting it out. But they wouldn't speak to me. I asked how they wanted proof of the POA (I certainly wasn't going to post it to them!) and they couldn't tell me. So I went back to the Halifax bank branch who tried ringing them on my behalf but they were cut off (twice!). In the end the lady I was speaking to told me to take out insurance somewhere else and write to Halifax Insurance to tell them I was cancelling the policy! What a complete fiasco. Avoid this dreadful company if you don't want hours and hours of frustration.
