“We've had two Kitchens Direct kitchens over 25 years. ...”

written by on 22/02/2008

Good Points
Units are still good after 20 years. Doors and hinges still excellent etc.

Bad Points
2 kitchen fittings not bad. Aggressive salesmen (bit spivvy) but a refurb of our current kitchen was a nightmare.

General Comments
We've had two Kitchens Direct kitchens over 25 years. I think the quality is excellent. However, until we all realise that most of the units come from 2 or 3 manufacturers and they are all the same, we will never get good service. Also, the spiel about the kitchens being German needs taking on board. I lived in Germany and most Germans aspire to Italian manufactured kitchens. I'm currently sourcing a supplier for a kitchen and looking at John Lewis and Magnet, they are exactly the same - no matter what the suppliers say. So, compare prices and then think very carefully about how they source the fitters. For example, both my daughters have excellent B and Q kitchens but the delivery and fitters were a nightmare with all the usual things going wrong. Anyway, we had 2 kitchens fitted without a problem but when we upgraded the 2nd one - we were promised they could take out all the worktops without disturbing the tiles above - needless to say we ended up retiling. They also promised me an adequately sized broom cupboard and I can hardly fit my hoover in it. They broke a room door and then denied it and no-one was interested in compensation. So, I think I'm going to John Lewis for the next one mainly because I feel if the fitters are rubbish. John Lewis will take it on board. The moral is: 99 per cent of units are identical. It's who and how they are fitted that is the vital part.
