General Comments
I wasn't too sure about The Island by Victoria Hislop when I was given it by a friend to read. 'A woman who goes to an Island which she later finds out was a leper colony years ago' I was told. But this book is just so lovely, so well told, such a fantastic read I would recommend it over and over again.

Alexis, a young woman who is seeking to answer some important questions in her own life starts to wonder about the unanswered questions about her mother's past which seems to have been so tightly kept under wraps. Alexis decides to go and visit where her mother was brought up and spent her life, and there she meets someone very close to her mother who helps unravel mysteries about the lives of her ancestors, and her mother's... here she finds out why her mother decided upon never talking about her past.

After a fantastic journey through the past, both she and her from a different perspective sometimes... which lead to Alexis' questions about her own life being answered for her, and her mother feeling more content about what has been, and what is to be.
