“The Olympus E-500 is just a brilliant digital camera....”

written by John raf on 21/06/2006

Good Points
Excellent images. Unlike the Canon 350 it divides down to 1024 x 768 for web pages. I think it's because the Canon does not use all the CCD array? Good battery life, and batteries are cheap to buy from an Ebay Hong Kong supplier. Fast shooting and multi-shot if required. Raw format available, but you would need at least 1Gb of RAM computer memory to work with raw format. As with all Olympus cameras in my experience, the manual is not brilliant, but when you can drive it, it's very very good.

Bad Points
Manual written by those who are familiar with it... That's OK, but it needs proof-reading by granny. We all need to know what they mean, and simple things required are missed out, or it is near impossible to find an answer in the manual. However, a big plus is that the phone line help desk is quick, available, and good if you are stuck.

General Comments
The Olympus E-500 is just a brilliant digital camera. I mean, what in this world is perfect? But the camera seems to be, so what if the manual is not!

Make sure you buy real Olympus lenses in any package deal. Some Amazon sales were not really up-front on this. Be surprised and try PC World for a package deal. You can only ask and be surprised! I was surprised!
