Good Points
Comfortable ride and genuine off-road capability.
Bad Points
Dismally unreliable, with lack-lustre support from both Land Rover and the dealer. It is very heavy on fuel (22mpg) without delivering any compensatory performance.
General Comments
When I first tried the Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 ES I really liked it - comfortable, and handles well. So I ordered one on a PCP plan and have had three long years to repent.
The list of defects goes on and on: overheating repeatedly, oil perpetually leaking into the coolant, failed engine replaced at 24000 miles, failure of the door locks and the central locking, seizing of a brake caliper, dangerous fuel leak, repeated failure of the airconditioning [which is in any case not in any way adequate for its job], electric windows and tailgate glass wound down spontaneously while parked, unexplained loss of power on the road.
Overall my vehicle spent an average of 1 day out of service for every 20 on the road - totally unacceptable.
