written by on 27/05/2008

Good Points
Food was very good, a wide variety of dishes at each sitting and plenty of fresh fruit to take away.

Bad Points
You have to negotiate a construction site to reach the beach at the back of the hotel. Waiters are over eager to clear your table. Entertainment very poor. Loads of biting mosquitos at night

General Comments
We arrived on 14/05/08 in the evening and were told to leave our cases outside while we checked in, on returning having found out our room numbers we then had to stick a label to our cases with the number. Once they had brought the case to our rooms we were then required to give a small tip but none of us had any local currency and ended up giving them a couple of quid which didn't go down too well. Our room was on the ground floor and quite large, plenty of room for all of us and very clean and tidy. The swimming pool at the Agadir Rui Tikida Dunas which looked so nice in the brochure was freezing cold and I only saw a couple of people swimming the whole time we were there. The hotel is quite large and the majority of the guests appear to be from France and Germany, each lunch sitting the waiters had the habit of greeting us in German.

Away from the hotel in Agadir we didn't find a great deal on offer, we walked from the hotel to the marina and only found a few uninviting restaurants and shops. It would seem that the place is still being built and at this rate they are going won't be ready for another 5 years are least. Oh there is an English pub which is about a mile down the road from the hotel and quite large with loads of TV Screens which is quite good, they don't sell any English beer and don't do crisps. The local brew is called FLAG which is a pretty average lager at around 4 pound a pint, we tried to find a shop which sold alcohol but couldn't find any, we did manage to get a few beers from the hypermarket after a short taxi ride. We bought a case of 24 bottles of FLAG which came to about 130 Dirams (10 pounds), this we managed to make last the whole week between 3 of us. Our Thomas cook rep was very nice and helpful and we booked up two excursions one a half day coach tour round Agadir and the other was a two day trip to Marrakech. Marrakech was fantastic and definitely the highlight of the holiday, it cost about 100 pounds but well worth it. Back at the hotel there's not much to do apart from sit round the pool, sometimes we couldn't even do that because of the high winds made it unbearable.

After visiting Egypt the past two years we were all in agreement that it would have been better to go there again.
