Agios Nikolaos, Crete
Absolutely wonderful location for all the family. Agios Nikolaos has the right balance of traditional the Greek way of life and the modern 21st century. It has a beautiful location with the sea in one direction and the mountains in the other. It is a great place to be for excursions and for seeing the rest of the Island. For example day trips to Spinalonga go from the lake and also trips to the turtle island. Knossos palace is only an hours drive and there are many things to see in and around the centre. It is a good idea to hire a car however, because the taxis are quite pricey.
The busy main centre streets are full of life and great for younger visitors, and the smaller side streets give a real taste of ancient Greece.
There is a fantastic night life for all ages, with bars and clubs for the more adventurous and quite sophisticated cafes open til late at night with roof top varandas and amazing views. There are plenty of lovely restaurants to choose from and nothing is overly priced.
Definately somewhere I would return to!

Athens - The Cradle Of Western Civilisation. Incr
Athens - the cradle of western civilisation. Incredible and well preserved ancient ruins abound. From neolithic ruins on the Acropolis, Archaic cemetaries like Kerameikos, Classical temples like the Parthenon, Hellenistic sites and theatres, Roman and Byzantine temples, Athens has it all when it comes to culture. If you like history, this is definitely the place to visit. The architecture in the centre of town is quite grand too. Wide boulevards with neo-classical motifs, large department stores, impressive buildings. Many good restaurants and food stalls and plenty of late night clubs and bars. This city hardly sleeps! You should visit the Plaka district near the Acropolis, where narrow, paved alleys retain an old-world feel. Athens can get pretty hot and smoggy over the summer, but it is still worth the visit. A great city!

Athens Is An Excellent City Break. If You Are Int
Athens is an excellent city break. If you are interested in exploring history of Ancient Greece, this is the place to go. The bigger than life temples are amazing and all within easy walking distance to the centre of town. There are several authentic Greek resturants. It is lovely in the spring to sit in the open cafes and linger over a long lunch with a bottle of wine. There is a no hurry attitude that allows for a lovely break from the stresses of life
