“Appalling and unhelpful - Mortgages”

Took out a mortgage with BoI around 5 years ago and have always made payment, never missed or defaulted. Everytime I have asked to borrow more, regardless of a good income, they have always refused and/or offered terrible rates. Their surveyors are hugely biased and you pay fees upfront which are not refunded.

Also I have good credit rating but the underwriters were saying that I was borrowing for debt consolidation when it was home improvements, of which they wanted every receipt to prove.

Existing customers get treated very badly and for my remortgage, they would not release from ERCs even 1 week before they expired.

They tried to also put me on a shocking rate (over 3%) and then I decided to move to the Halifax at 1.29%, with no issue and further borrowing.

I am so irritated and annoyed with BoI that I am tempted to write a review on every website to prevent people dealing with them.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of using them.
