“I bought a 30 litre Biorb as a birthday present and it...”

written by on 14/04/2011

I bought a 30 litre Biorb as a birthday present and it has turned out to be very disappointing. There's nothing wrong with the tank itself and it's well made with quality materials but it is incapable of holding most cold water fish, despite its advertising. I suspect you would have difficulties if you installed a heater and tried to purchase tropical fish too. I have been to three aquariums and tried to buy goldfish which I assumed would be the most appropriate given that this type of fish is recommended in the manual accompanying the Biorb and because they feature in the visual advertisements of the product. No go, every time I was told 30 litres was not big enough to hold even two small goldfish and then there was an added problem of the tanks' shape. As it is round, it is not recommended for fish that dart about and swim quickly - according to staff at Pets At Home. Although I was also told this at other establishments too. There have been problems with water samples and the samples I took in contained too much Nitrate. I don't know if this is to do with the tank or if too much Nitrate exists in the local water supply?? In any case it was another reason why I couldn't buy fish. It's been a really exasperating experience and embarrassing because it was bought as a present and probably will not be used. Biorbs and their accessories are also expensive and not really worth it. I was unaware that you needed to go to such lengths to buy plain goldfish prior to buying the tank and this is ridiculous! If you have one and have yet to buy fish for it, when you go to get them you should say your tank is already stocked and that you have a square glass tank. Therefore you may avoid getting a lecture off some minion in a pet store who thinks they share the psychology of a goldfish!
