General Comments
The Hydron [Coopervision]lenses were fitted for me by Dolland & Aitchson, under their SL70 branding. They are one of the most expensive long-term wear lenses on the market. They contain 70% water, which means that they snatch most of the fluid from your eyes to maintain themselves. Given that I have dry eyes and told the fitter this at the exam, God alone knows why they fitted me with them.

My original prescription was around -11.00D, which is very high [its now down to about -9.00D]. That meant I was limited in the choice of lenses, so I got lumbered with these. They spin incessantly and at the end of the day, they've attracted a huge amount of protein [I've got high protein levels too] and debris. They also 'fog up' terribly, if you close your eyes for longer than about 5mins!

They're easy to put in, despite the daunting size at first. Equally easy to remove. My current pair, don't have a soft tint, so they're easy to lose. Current lenses now have the soft blue tint added, I believe, I always use barrel containers anyway, as it keeps the orientation cut in the right place.

They might be ok as a first lens, as they're easy to handle, fairly tear resistant and easy to insert/remove. After you've got used to wearing lenses for a while though, I think another type might be better. They have to be made to order, so you only get one pair for a whole year. If you buy them online via somewhere like Postoptics though, you might be able to afford 6 monthly replacements.

There wasn't much around for high powers, when I started wearing these around 6 years ago. Nowadays, there are many different types of high power lenses and many disposables now go up as high as -10.00D, so there is hope for us very high myopes.

A good first pair, but I wouldn't keep wearing them for years.
