General Comments
The Nikon brand name has always enjoyed a solid reputation, and the D100 adds to its accolades. It is well featured, and has just about everything you'd want in an SLR camera, whether it be digital or film. The allure of a digital SLR is that you can still use the same interchangeable lenses, thereby increasing flexibility with shooting options with regard to aperture control, use of filters, but even more so, it is that a digital SLR handles pretty much like a film SLR. In this respect, the D100 has a body similar to the F80, with similarly laid out controls. The handling is more substantial (due to the extra 1cm depth at the base, compared to the F80), and the major differences are the LCD screen and associated buttons on the back. It has all the major features that one would require, such as matrix metering, centre weighted and spot metering, exposure compensation, flash compensation, depth of field preview, and Nikon's unique grid overlay, which aids in composition and horizontal alignment. The only gripe (which isn't really a gripe if you understand how it works) is that the pics seem to come out underexposed. However, you will notice that all the detail is also captured, which explains why the exposure seems underdone. The D100 is supplemented by Nikon's flash and lens system, so you're not short of extras to use. In summary, a strong turnout from D100, well recommended, and a job well done by Nikon.
