Good Points
We happened upon the Anchor Inn when we made a wrong turn and needed a place to turn the car around. It was lunchtime, so we decided to go in for lunch. It was early June, 2001, and unless the food has changed completely since then, I can recommend it highly. The lunch I ate there was the one meal I raved about to my friends when I returned to the US. I just now checked their website, and the menu is different than it was then. Other family members ordered "the ploughman's special" and I had a simple grilled cheese sandwich and cream of mushroom soup. I don't know what kind of cheeses they used in the sandwich, and would give almost anything to find out the recipe for their mushroom soup, but both were extraordinary. As I write this, it is November 2007, and I still remembered that meal enough to check and see if they have a website. I wonder if they will share a recipe or two with me?

General Comments
The service at The Anchor Inn in Oakerthorpe was great, and the food was excellent! At that time, smoking was allowed in every pub we visited in England. Perhaps because it was noon and not later in the day, we didn't notice the smoke smell. We are all non-smokers.
