“The IBM Thinkpad T43 is a great business laptop, but...”

written by qtphatfarm on 16/07/2005

Good Points
*New ATI x300 graphics card.
*Very slim (1 inch in front and 1.2 inches thick in back).
*Light weight (five pounds).
*Hard drive protection.
*Sonoma+DDR2 533 ram= fast.
*Swapable optical bay.
*Gigabit ethernet.
*Great performing abg wireless card.
*IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0.
*Thinklight.
*Sturdy frame, (heard inside frame was titanium).
*One of the best keyboards in all notebook computers.

Bad Points
Lack of USB ports.
No firewire.
High price (usually).
Poor sound (but yet I give it some credit since this is coming from a business notebook).
Not widescreen nor glossy finish (I can deal without but would have been nice to have).
Battery life isn't five hours like marketed(maybe 3.5.

General Comments
The IBM Thinkpad T43 is a great business laptop, but is also a laptop anyone can enjoy. Unless your looking for a desktop replacment or a computer with 17/15 widescreen's made for multimedia options and gaming then this is right for you. This is fine to watch DVD's on. It runs fast and has tons of features. Very thin at 1 inch at thinnest point. In buying this laptop I wanted a very thin and light latop that ran pretty fast. My computer is a Thinkpad T43, with 1gig ram, 60 gig hard drive, 14" display, 64 x300 graphics, multi function recorder bay. To get those specs on any other computer is very easy and will cost less but you have to factor in that most mainstream computers and most business computers don't have the unseen features like IBM, for example embeded security system, profesional standard, hard drive protection (air bag like system), wireless card that has built in antenna built into the screen pointing up for best performance, the most new hardware, ultimate built with a rock solid structure, easy navigation with red stick and all other moving devices. I look it at this way, you pay for what you get and this isn't some high end gaming machine nor is it the best performer, but it is a machine that will last and is very stable.
