“I'm mega disappointed with the NEC e540 phone. I liked...”

written by midcomsys on 14/07/2008

Good Points
Looks good, out of the norm. Has some quirky features and a good camera which when the pictures are downloaded are at times as good as a dedicated camera is SVGA mode. Quite a lot of memory. Good battery life at its lowest power settings.

Bad Points
Bluetooth doesn't work for a start which is why I bought the phone. The video playback is juddery, the menu system is confusing, the volume is to low even at it's highest level. Limited MP3 playback, the memory is divided into caches which aren't big enough to playback a single track longer than a minute. It was one of the first 'imode' phones released which means not much at all because it's as useful as a chocolate fire-guard.

General Comments
I'm mega disappointed with the NEC e540 phone. I liked the looks and on paper it has all the bases covered. NEC seem more interested in confusing the user and limiting the phone rather than show off its supposed features. I believe that the same phone (although under a different guise) is a favourite in Japan, why? I'm not a 'must have the next new gizmo' user or prepared to pay hundreds of pound for something as basic as a phone so the E540 was a logical choice, wrong! I'll not purchase another NEC unit. I had a basic motorola V220 and C139 before it which were rubbish but at least they were easy to use. Summing up, it's a jack of all trades and master of none. Avoid if you want bluetooth connectivity, better still just avoid it....
