“The Sony RDR GXD500 is the first digital television...”

written by Fearmor on 18/04/2005

Good Points
Was available in Region-Free mode.

Bad Points
Despite its relatively high price, it is not capable of receiving pay-for programmes such as Topup TV.

General Comments
The Sony RDR GXD500 is the first digital television item I've ever owned. Generally the build quality of the item is very good but learning to "drive" it took me three or four days and even now have not mastered all the features.

The thing that really upset me was that for an item so expensive (circa £300.00) it was not possible to receive subscription programmes such as Discovery Channel from Topup TV as it it did not have the requisite card slot and there was no way of attaching an external adaptor.

Had I known about this shortcoming before I bought the unit, I'd have chosen another make/model.
