“Mine has blown two power packs so far and freezes...”

written by sunibo on 05/06/2007

Good Points
The FVRT100 is fairly easy to set up, has an excellent picture and dual tuners.

Bad Points
Recording is only viable at standard speed, at any other speed, the sound and picture get out of sync after 20-30 minutes, power supply shelf-life is short, noisy.

General Comments
Mine has blown two power packs so far and freezes about once a month. OK, it resets easily, switch it off and on again and wait a minute or so but it's annoying. When it works it's very good but we can only use it at standard recording speed. Whenever we tried to get more on the disc, the sound and picture lost synchronisation after 20-30 minutes, again this is simple to fix, stop playback, go to the nearest frame and start again but really annoying for most recordings and difficult to understand as it's digital! Also, we find the constant noise of the disk drive (it's there whether recording or just on standby) a distraction in the quiet of our lounge. If the power goes again, we'll replace the whole thing, it isn't worth the hassle. By the way, if anyone else needs a power supply in a hurry, Maplins sell a 12V, 2Amp unit, either in the shop or mail order.
