“We have just got back from the Electra palace with...”

written by lovebeingabroad on 21/08/2009

We have just got back from the Electra palace with lots of mosquito bites.

The hotel is right under the flight path, therefore every plane landing into the airport will be heard day and night. The earliest plane I heard coming in in the morning was at 3:30 and the last one coming in for the night was at around 11pm.

On 2 occasions during our 2 week stay there was a notice on the lift saying out of order.

Afternoon snacks are available from 4:30pm to 5:15pm. Free.

Rhodes is a very hot island. It is nice when you are in a bikini lying in the sun but not if you are having a day trip around the island. It is definitely well in the 40's in the summer.

The pool is good, average to big so never overcrowded although the shallow end is around 1.3 m so not good for children. There is s big baby pool. There is a hot jacazzi. Beach towels are available and you don't have to get up that early to put towels on sunbeds.

The beach is very shingly and pebbly, no sand, the sea does get very deep very quickly however if you swim out far enough you will be able to stand up again and touch pure golden sand. Very weird. But it is good for skimming stones. You do also get free sun lounges and umbrellas on the beach.

There is a kids club for the under 12's with only 2 entertainers. They are good at their job but there does need to be some more activities as there was only yoga, darts, aquagym, water polo, and beach volleyball. Night entertainment was the worst I have ever seen, either people signing Beatles or abba songs or a traditional Greek dance night or the animation team (boys dressing up as girls) or instruments being played. At 8:30pm there is a mini disco for the kids dancing to songs such as superman, agadoo, kratacus, veo veo, mimic man etc. And there is a kid's play area.

The food is not that good. Each night is a selection of food from around the world. So if you don't like Chinese etc there is not a lot to choose from on that night. You can choose a selection of drinks for the meal depending on time of meal (beer, red or white wine, juices, coffee or tea, or fizzy, or water. There is also a Chinese and Italian restaurant that you have to pre book the night before. Men have to wear long trousers to dinner while women can wear short skits. They also do packed lunches if you want to go out.

Definitely book a suite. It will cost more but there is so much more room and you can separate the room into 2 rooms with a sliding door, so good is someone snores. There is a DVD player in the room so bring some along. You can also hire one from reception for 5 Euros. There is a fridge in the room with a once only fill up of free drinks. But there is a kettle and coffee tea sugar etc that is refilled every day. However I do think that the rooms could be a bit more colourful as ours was white with just 2 very small black + white pictures on the wall.

Reception staff are helpful and there are 2 bell boys that will take up and bring down suitcases

There is no lifeguard

There are internet access points that cost 4.50 for 1/2 hour.

There are lots of stray cats and dogs. We once saw a dog sitting in the pool. Lol

Pool table (2 Euros a game) and a table tennis table
