Good Points
Nikon has made a firmware upgrade for these cameras that eliminates these issues and makes your camera useable. They also have information posted on the Nikon site to offer help and give an address to ship the camera if the problem doesn't clear so they can fix it for you.

General Comments
I have owned my coolpix 885 for over 5 years and have taken several hundred pictures with it. I have only just gotten the system error problem. I did some research on the error came up and found that Nikon has addressed the issue with a firmware upgrade and has an offer for customers to send the camera in to have them clear the error if we can't do it with the suggested fixes. I have had years of enjoyment with my camera. I brought it when it first hit the market and I still feel it is one of the better cameras I own and I have brought a couple since buying this own back in 2003.
