“Refusal to remove from mailing list”

My father wrote to them to ask them to remove my mother's details from their mailing list following her death. They ignored him so he emailed. They finally replied saying they couldn't do this without the death certificate as they "need to register the death with their credit reference agencies"
WHY? MY MOTHER WON'T BE APPLYING FOR ANY MORE CREDIT!

Jobsworthiness at its very worst.
